Monstrous Haiku

Freya Pickard recently asked for haiku submissions on the theme of monsters and the monstrous. Since this is a subject close to my heart, I found myself quite inspired. I’m delighted that Freya has accepted all five of my haiku, and is posting them one per day this week – starting today with consent is a myth.

Consent is founded on the principle that we are fundamentally equal and no one else may lay superior claim to our selves. Consigned to the past is the droit du seigneur. Vampires are a fiction, and no longer lurk in the shadowy corridors of power. Monsters may lurk beneath the bed, but never within it.

The world has grown safe.

I dare you to believe it.
