“The Channel isn’t deep enough,”
the raucous Gull-Kings cried
“We need to dig a deeper trench
to keep them on their side
“Their interference far too long
has muddied all our ways
A simple life we’ll have without
their bureaucratic maze
“Our rivers will be ours again
to fish just how we please
We’ll blow those filthy foreigners
away from British seas
“Once free from their control again
we’ll have the falcons killed
And hawks and foxes, weasels too
for all the blood they’ve spilled
“This is the land of white-faced cliffs
and feathers grey and white
We are the blessed of the gods
we’ll rule with iron might!”
This poem tells an intriguing story. It made me think of Game of Thrones for some reason.
Alas, ’tis but a reference to the sordid and sorry state of British politics in the lead up to the EU Referendum.
Ahh. Got it. I’m so not a political person. Ha, ha.
It’s looking increasingly likely that Britain will vote to leave the EU, and it’s breaking my heart. It’s such a stupid stupid stupid thing to do.
Wow! Yes, even I think so too.
