Not to one another, no

Tentative they teased and danced
With words and gestures they entranced
Shameless flirting, shared delight
As dated evening turned to night
Destination not in doubt
They forged ahead, did not about
Eagerly they raced to bed
Forgetting quickly they were wed
Not to one another, no
But risking all they chose to go
Choice? What choice! Their love was true!
The vows they’d made they would undo
Soon the vows would be remade
With bonds of love that could not fade
Hearts in tune, with rich desire
Their passion fuelled a ceaseless fire
Long they burned on scarlet sheets
Like flames they licked their lover’s treats
Drained and drowned they slept at last
Though not for long, the night had passed
Through the window sunlight broke
The spell that bound them – they awoke
Knowing nothing but distrust
They glared in hateful self-disgust

    This piece flows so…. perfectly!!

    • Frank says:

It started as an experiment, alternating a line of 7-syllable trochee (Tyger, tyger, burning bright) with a line of more comfortable 8-syllable iambic.
