Desert Maid

black sky bright with stars; sand teases the cooling dunes; whispers in the night
pregnant with danger; restless curves seduce the eye; treacherous to sight

a vast emptiness; Polaris my constant guide; to an unknown fate
my water is gone; death is my companion; ‘rest now,’ it says, ‘wait’

beautiful the sun; its fire consumes the desert; giving and taking
between here and there; flashes of angelic eyes; drifting and waking

her kiss restores me; my heart beats with racing joy; heavenly embrace
golden cataract; falling curls of filtered light; frame her anxious face

a secret garden; nectar and lustral waters; concealed within silk
admitted within; jasmine-scented savage musk; sweet life-giving milk
