A pretty human all alone

A pretty human all alone
and unaware of me
between the streetlights walking brave
where mortals none should be.

A bolt of fear – what wondrous spice! –
it caught a glimpse of me
a pale face in this moonless night
too shadowy to see.

Upon the dark road, huddled up,
I let my false tears fall
they twinkled like the unseen stars
and sobbing thus I called:

‘Oh help me, please, I beg of you
my legs are broken through
I’ve crawled for hours! but now, alas,
my arms are weary too.’

It hesitated, held by fear,
and watched me feebly crawl
compassion broke its heart at last
it helped me to the wall.

‘You’ve such a lovely face,’ I sighed
‘so kind and gentle too
if there were any hope for me
I’d ask to marry you.’

And flattered thus its sweet face blushed
a warm and rosy hue
I struck at once! its hot blood rushed
and filled me through and through.

If only it didn’t change tense halfway through… 😦 Fixed, sort-of.
