Julia P. Lynde’s Holiday Escort, published 2013, is a delightful romance. I don’t often read romance, but this one is easy to read, well balanced, with a lovely humour running through it.
Madeline, desperate for work, accepts a job as Karen’s personal PA for the month of December. This requires her to do Karen’s Christmas cards, to decorate the house, cook dinner every day, host dinner parties, and to generally pose as Karen’s girlfriend. It’s a demanding job, but well paid. She gets to live with Karen, and both are huge fans of Argentine tango.
Despite being straight – or perhaps because of it – Madeline enjoys the role of girlfriend, and teases Karen by flirting with her, never expecting it to lead to something more. And when it does, will Madeline be willing to accept the life of a ’50s housewife?
