I’m planning to publish an extract from Kings of Infinite Space as a more-or-less standalone novella. While the full novel is a long (184000 words) epic fantasy with some vampiric elements, the extract (approximately 30000 words) is the story of Hrana, mother of the vampire race. The blurb will be something like this:
OhLo, home to many sentient species, is a world of wizardry where technology is forbidden by the dragons.
When Hrana, a young priestess of the love goddess Keylin, makes a bargain with the Dancer to save her family and village from marauders, the price is to leave her life behind and go in search of the mythical city of Alina Meridon. It is a quest that will last for thousands of years and see Hrana become thief, warrior, wizard, and mother of the vampire race.
I have been working on a cover. My wife prefers the early draft on the right, while my daughter (nearly six) prefers the version on the left (‘it’s got more red in it’). We’re wondering what other people think.

I like the one on the left. It captured my attention than the other one, which has the woman too far away and therefore looking distant to me.
It’s funny – I was aware of the distance effect, but hadn’t really thought about it in that way.
